COLUMBIA RIVER

Upper Columbia

This section of the Columbia River runs from Revelstoke down to Arrowhead, where it becomes Upper Arrow Lake.  This wide, slow moving section of the river is best fished in July and August.

The water is cold in this section of the river, and the trout are very active even through the hot summer months.  They hammer your spinner or lure, and once hooked, spend as much time in the air as they do in the water.

Expect 8 - 15 rainbows per day with an average size of 16 - 18 inches, and some up to 24 inches.  Bull Trout are also in these waters, and get up to 6 - 8 lbs at this time of year.

Fly fishing, spin casting or trolling are the recommended ways of angling, and all produce fish.  I use my 22 ft. charter boat for this area, and can fit up to 5 people.  I run this charter out of Galena Bay, either from Nakusp or Revelstoke British Columbia.

Lower Columbia

This section of the river runs from Castlegar to the U.S. border. A very fast and powerful section of the river, half the fun of fishing is the scenic and exciting ride to the next hole.  The best times to fish this part of the river are from April to October for Rainbow Trout, and June to October for Walleye.

This is a world class trout river, with the possibility of rainbow trout over 10 lbs being taken on the fly, or on a spinning rod.  Load up your backing because once hooked, these fish tear out of the back eddies and try to use the current to their advantage.

The Walleye fishing is also some of the best in North America and Canada.  Keep a few of those melt-in-your-mouth 16 - 18 inch, 1.5 - 2 pound Walleye for the table, and release the bigger ones to spawn again.

This isn't your ordinary Walleye fishery.  Normally when you think of Walleye fishing, you think of first and last light being the best bites, and the spring or fall when the water temperatures are cooler, and the sun lower in the sky.  Not so on the Columbia.

On a gorgeous hot, sunny day In the middle of the summer, the Walleye hammer your bait one after the other. Thirty to forty fish days are not uncommon, they are expected!  And size?.... Expect fish 4 to 5 pounds each day, and fish in the 8 - 12lb range are not uncommon.

My clients tell me that these river Walleye even fight harder than lake Walleye.  What more could you ask for?

I use a 16ft. open bow boat with 80 hp. motor for your safety and comfort while on the river and supply all your equipment and bait.

1 - 3 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children is the recommended amount of people out of Nelson or Castlegar, British Columbia.

Check out our very popular 4 day combo trip.

You fish the Upper Columbia for rainbows and bull trout for two days, then move down to the Lower Columbia to fish for Walleye and Rainbows for two days.  It's an experience you won't forget !!
