Fishing Report – November 19, 2010
Kootenay Lake is fishing hot. Great numbers of big fish coming in. Many days we’re having multiple rainbows over ten pounds on the same day. A good example of this was on Nov.11 when Karl a new guy came out with two of his buddies. I was sure hoping to get him a trout over ten pounds to get him hooked on this trophy fishery. Well by 10:00am the fish decided to help me out, and we were off to the races. To start the day we had a double header 12 pounders. Got the first one to the boat, and it falls off the barbless hook. Get the second one to the boat, and it falls off the hook. Well that’s a bit discouraging, but 10 minutes later the reel screams again, and we land a 16lber. Then we get a 14 lber.We then have a couple more big fish on that perform long distance releases. Then Karl hooks into something real big, and this fish pulls line like I haven’t heard in a long time. In it’s first run we look down at the line counter and it reads 550 ft. Karl takes his time, and works this fish into the boat. We land the 18 pounder. An incredible battle!
We hooked into 10 big fish landing 5. An 18,16, two 14′s, and a 12. Not to mention the ones under ten pounds. I tried to keep it real by telling them that it isn’t like this everyday, but they were so full of adrenaline I don’t think they believed me.
For the next few days I had Horace, Doug, and Marty out for the Kaslo Bay Resort rainbow derby. The first day we landed one over 10 lbs, the second day we landed 4 over ten and the last day I don’t really want to talk about. Our biggest was 9lbs. Still a beautifull trout.
They have been coming in mostly on flies. The 215 has been very consistant, along with the 204, 228, and 214. Troll them up to 4 mph. Purples should start working soon as well. If you want these flies shipped to your door, ph. Miranda at Hook it up Tackle in Nakusp, and she will ship them out to you the same day. Her email is firstname.lastname@example.org and her ph.# is 250-265-0005
Lots of great fishing to be done this winter, and lots of big fish yet to come.
Tight Lines … Brad
