Fishing Report – January 17, 2011
End of December and into January has been very good for trout. Most of the larger Gerrards are in the 15 – 18 lb range. I did see numbers of fish coming down as the water got colder, so I slowed my presentation down and threw out some Lyman plugs. Had some great days pulling plugs. Both rainbows and bull trout. On the darker days the #69 was hot. At one point I had three of them out, two on the surface, and one down deep, and they were all catching. Other Lymans that were working were # 67, # 32, #10, and #100. All great winter colors.
For flies, the good ole 215 and 228 are still working in addition to the blk/wht’s
Don’t forget about Hook it Up Tackle’s fishing derby this coming weekend in Nakusp. January 22,23. Biggest fish over 10 lbs wins it. There will be lots of prizes in addition to the top three fish, including free flies from Kootenay Fly Company, and free plugs from Lyman Lures. Call Miranda for details at Ph.250-265-0005. The weather looks great for the derby with highs around or above freezing.
Lots of great fishing to be done this winter, and a great way to beat cabin fever.
Tight Lines … Brad
