Fishing Report – Dec. 18

Been an interesting fall. Not the amount of big rainbows that we are used
to. Some of the ones we have been getting have been quite long and thin.
Kokanee numbers are down so I think this is the reason for thin rainbows.
Not sure why the Kokanee are down though. Biologists are not sure either of

Having said that there are still some nice fish to be had. Lots of small
rainbows, good numbers of bull trout, and a few big bows mixed in.
The last week we’ve had some great bow days.
Favorite lures have been the 210,222,214, and 234 bucktails, and 13,10,69,
and a green one( can’t find the number) in Lyman plugs. It’s like the 13 but
with green sparkles.
Still trolling at 2.8 to 3 mph. Water temp is 44 degrees. Will be slowing
down to 2 – 2.5 mph soon as the water cools.
I’m doing a major renovation to the Hourston in January. I bought a 2014
300hp Yamaha from Jones Boys Boats in Ainsworth.  They are podding the boat
and bolting on the big Yam.  Really looking forward to the new motor and the
extra room in the boat as well. Will make it a lot easier to fish out of.
The guys at Jones Boys have looked after me exceptionally well over the last
20 years. I probably won’t be seeing them as much as I used to as Yamaha
outboards are so reliable. Will just be in for services.

The boat is also getting a face lift. Fiberglass work and a new paint job at
Dieters Autobody in Nakusp.

Don’t worry. I’ll still be offering charters in January. I’ve made
arrangements to use a different boat during the renovations.

Don’t forget to check out Kootenay Kingfisher on Facebook. I do a lot more
up to date reports and pictures on there. If your not on Facebook you can
still click on the Facebook icon and read the reports.

Hope to see you soon.
