FISHING REPORT

Fishing report for Dec. 5th, 2007:

Kootenay Lake has been fishing very well for trout to 14 lbs, and the Bulls are packing on the weight as well after the fall spawn. I found a sweet spot north of town, and have had excellent days 5 out of the last 6 times up there. Hooked into a couple of real monsters that made the Shimano's smoke, but couldn't hold onto them with the barbless hooks. Good numbers of fish in the 3 - 10 lb range, and some up to 14 lbs making for lots of fun.

The other day I was out with Dave and Kim, and we had a busy day hooking into a 10, two 8's, 7, 6, 5, and a bunch of 3's. Plump footballs with lots of jam. These are this years average size fish, but they will gain 6 lbs a year, so next year we should have lots of fish in the teens, and the next year should be good numbers of 20 plus's. Even at the spawning channel this last spring, most of the fish were in the 12lb range according to the biologists, which is smaller than average. By next year those fish will be close to 20's.
