Fishing
Report for Oct 1st 2008
Another great summer has come to a close. Fishing out of Ucluelet was
excellent this year. According to fisheries studies, we had some of the
best salmon and halibut fishing in B.C. this year. The weather wasn't
always that nice. Quite a bit of rain and wind. Especially the last half
of Aug., which is normally your best weather. However, we worked around
it, and fished inside waters on the rough days.
Springs were averaging 18 - 28lbs, with some up to the high 30's and low
forties, and the biggest one I heard of was 53lbs.
Lots of feeder springs were on the banks this year in the 8 - 15lb range,
making at times for non stop action. These are next years mature fish,
so it's a great sign of what next years fishing will be like.
The Halibut were very plentiful as well, with limits of 10 - 40 lbers
being the norm. Incredible eating ! My families favorite with a little
tartar sauce.
So now I'm home, and recovered from 50 days on the ocean, and it's time
to get ready for fall fishing on the lakes. There are 3 derbys in Oct.
and November, and I have openings for a couple of them at this time. I'm
also looking forward to pursuing the Slocan and Trout Lake fisheries this
fall. Arrow Lake, after a couple of slow years for trout, has already
been producing some nice fish this year. So should be a great winter.
Drop me a line, and we'll start planning a great fall trip.
Tight Lines ...
