FISHING REPORT
Fishing report for Oct. 10th, 2007:
Started
fishing the big lakes last Thursday. Thursday we head out on Arrow for two days.
Day one was a little slow, but we landed one Bull to 6lbs, and four small trout.
Friday really picked up. We landed 13 small trout, and 4 Bulls. All the Bulls
were between 43 and 65ft, and we caught all 4 of them within about 30 minutes.
Then we never had another Bull Trout the rest of the day. The biggest was 12lbs.
Also landed a few trout at 43ft., and the rest were on hair on top.
Then I headed over to Kootenay Lake to fish the Woodbury Rainbow Derby. Saturday
was ideal bucktailing conditions, and we landed 10 trout to 5 lbs, and a few
Bulls down deep. Day two we had high south winds, so we fought 4 to 5 ft. waves.
Caught 6 - 8 fish on hair, but again no derby winner. At this point there had
only been one fish weighed in at 13.8lbs. There is a 30 inch minimum to bring
a fish in, but the winner is determined by weight. Day three is a half day,
and there is still only one fish weighed in. One hour left, and Bob Brown from
Kootenay Fly Company, and myself are talking on the radio. He's about a quarter
mile ahead of me when he says he's gotta go. He brings in a 12.12lb trout in
the last hour of the derby to grab second place. No third place was weighed
in. Bob had a new fly pattern, and that's what he caught the fish on, and that
was my best fly for the 5 days.
It's still a bit early in the season for the big guys. Things will be in full
swing in about 2 weeks. I have openings for the Oct.27,28 derby on Arrow Lakes,
and Nov.10 -12 derby on Kootenay Lake. Derbys are a ton of fun, and the prize
money is even better.
